Gabe and I made refrigerator pickles using cucumbers and garlic from the garden as well at a handful of Marni's burr oak tree leaves (thanks, Marni!). The tannin in the leaves is supposed to help keep the pickles fresh.

Gabe and I had some fun with the kale before making kale chips.

Amos Pettingill, White Flower Farm’s resident writer, recently sent out this greeting to our email subscribers: “These long, lazy days are the best time to relax and enjoy the miracle that is your garden. The patience, planning, and effort that went into its creation are amply rewarded by the beauty, serenity, and abundance of the show, not to mention the unexpected variations that nature always provides.”
